My plan of attack for this school year has been to take it one day at a time and learn. This is my first year as a teacher. I don’t know all the answers to all the questions so I am learning just like my students. I hope that by next year I will feel a little bit more secure in what I am doing. It doesn’t mean that I am not willing to try anything new it just means that I am not trying to get to far ahead of myself.
I will use what I have learned on a daily basis. As I begin to get more comfortable with what I learned in this course I will gradually find what will work in my classroom and what may not work. I have learned that as an educator that I have to be a lifelong learner. To me that means that professionally I have to continue to learn and be aware of what is working for students and what isn’t working. Students are not the same as they were 20 years ago or even 10 years ago. The amount of technology out there for students to use is amazing and I look forward to growing as a teacher that can use this technology. There is so much more out there in the world of Web 2.0 that I want to learn. Now that I have gotten a taste of it I look forward to taking the 23 More Things course when it is offered.
Personally, I will use these Things on a regular basis. My understanding of Web 2.0 has grown tremendously since this course started and I am excited to know that there is still more out there that I haven’t tried yet.
Sharing as a new teacher in a building can be scary. Not knowing how others may react tends to put me out of my comfort zone. I am willing to share with my colleagues if they are interested. I will certainly share my experiences with this class and how it helped me to have a better grasp on where education is going.
I feel the best way to stay connected as a PLN is by continually checking out the blogs of the other members of this course. I would imagine that as we continue our journey’s through Web 2.0 in the classroom that we would blog about it. Just as if I would blog about my family I could blog about what I have done in my classroom with my students and how things worked.

Thing 22
I would certainly take courses online. With a family at home and being new to the teaching profession I need to get my 90 Hours. While being in a classroom type setting is beneficial to take a course it also takes away time at home with my family. I like the idea that I can sit at home and work on a course. This way I can work at my own pace and I am not forced to sit in a roomful of people at a designated time.
There are always advantages and disadvantages to working online. You could say that the lack of face to face interaction could be a disadvantage, but you could also say think of the opportunity to meet other people around the state taking the same class. I think this 23 Things course has proven that even though we are not in a classroom setting we are able to collaborate or share ideas in other ways besides in person.
Looking through the courses a few PD courses I would like to see would be Digital Storytelling and Photostory. They do offer a lot of courses and at this time I didn’t register for anything but will certainly be keeping an eye on what is available for future courses.
This is not the first time I have taken an online course. It takes self discipline to do something like this because you are not in a classroom constantly being reminded of when projects are due. I enjoy and will continue to take online courses in the future. This class has shown that you don’t need to be in a classroom to adequately interact with other people.

The use of online video in my classroom would be fun. My students always come up to me telling me about videos that I have to see on YouTube. Although what they want me to see might not be educational it certainly tells me that my students are using YouTube on a regular basis. There are educational things on YouTube and TeacherTube that can be used. This online video sharing has opened up a new world of showing a video in the classroom. I look forward to the opportunity to use something from YouTube or TeacherTube in the classroom.
There are risks with everything that you do on the internet. The one thing that I have learned through the course of this class is that it is ok to use the internet and that as long as you monitor students those risks can be minimal.
This first video from TeacherTube shows the use of video in the classroom. This is a class project that was done.
This video is about using Blogs in the classroom. Something we have been learning through this 23 Things course.

I think my students would enjoy listening to podcasts. Having students listen to a book or story could be fun for them. They could use this site that I found in the information that was provided for the course.
http://www.audiobooks.net/audiobooks_free.php
This site provides a number of podcast on a variety of topics from National Geographic.

Students would love to create a podcast. I would probably start with Book talks which is a book review made into a podcast. I think it would give them a basic place to start and to have fun and be creative.
I really like this Grammar site it is full of useful podcasts.

I came across this one and found it cute. It would be good to put on my kids iPods for bedtime.

http://www.americanrhetoric.com/top100speechesall.html
On this site I found the top 100 speeches of the 20th Century. Very neat site and could be used for a number of things in a classroom whether it is English, History or Public Speaking.
http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/default.aspx
On this site I found a number of various Grammar related podcasts. I feel this is a great site to use in a classroom.
I like podcasts for the fact that it is something you can use with students on the go. Most students do have iPods or a MP3 that they can use to download podcasts. Students may find this an interesting and interactive way to learn something. I think my students would enjoy both podcasts and vodcasts. Students don’t want to always sit down and read. But if I could get them to download something onto an iPod or MP3 they may realize that they could be listening to something on the go. Also some students are not comfortable with reading and this may provide them with an alternate way to learn.
I could provide my students with a list of podcasting sites that could be used. I have created a teacher website through the school district and I could also use that as a place to put a list of sites. I feel I could incorporate podcasts into my teaching very easily. Instead of students reading a book and doing a book report on it they could find a book or story online to listen to through their iPods or MP3. They could then write a summary of what they listened to. It is possible to take it a step further and have students create a podcast of what they listened to using a site like Gcast.
One of the main issues with this would be that it is possible that not every student has an iPod or MP3. They may not have a computer to access the internet to download a podcast either.

Thing 17
1. How is a wiki different from a blog?
A blog is used more like a daily diary. A wiki however is something that is created and maintained over time. It isn’t something that you would carry a conversation on but more of something that you could work collaboratively on with others.
2. For what types of assignments or projects would a wiki be more appropriate to use than a blog, or vice versa?
A wiki would be more beneficial if you wanted to write a class paper. You could have one student start a paper and then another student could come along and make corrections or additions to it. This could go on and on until all students have helped create a paper. It could also be used a class website where members of the class could maintain and add important information regarding assignments and useful links.
3. What are some of the problems you can envision when using a wiki with your students? How could you get around these?
Problems that could arise would be students placing inappropriate information on it. This problem could be solved by having students create a contract and sign it along with a parent or guardian about appropriate use of a wiki. In this contract, students would know what is expected of them while in use of the wiki and what the consequences would be if they break these rules.
