Thing 23

My plan of attack for this school year has been to take it one day at a time and learn. This is my first year as a teacher. I don’t know all the answers to all the questions so I am learning just like my students. I hope that by next year I will feel a little bit more secure in what I am doing. It doesn’t mean that I am not willing to try anything new it just means that I am not trying to get to far ahead of myself.

I will use what I have learned on a daily basis. As I begin to get more comfortable with what I learned in this course I will gradually find what will work in my classroom and what may not work. I have learned that as an educator that I have to be a lifelong learner. To me that means that professionally I have to continue to learn and be aware of what is working for students and what isn’t working. Students are not the same as they were 20 years ago or even 10 years ago. The amount of technology out there for students to use is amazing and I look forward to growing as a teacher that can use this technology. There is so much more out there in the world of Web 2.0 that I want to learn. Now that I have gotten a taste of it I look forward to taking the 23 More Things course when it is offered.

Personally, I will use these Things on a regular basis. My understanding of Web 2.0 has grown tremendously since this course started and I am excited to know that there is still more out there that I haven’t tried yet.

Sharing as a new teacher in a building can be scary. Not knowing how others may react tends to put me out of my comfort zone. I am willing to share with my colleagues if they are interested. I will certainly share my experiences with this class and how it helped me to have a better grasp on where education is going.

I feel the best way to stay connected as a PLN is by continually checking out the blogs of the other members of this course. I would imagine that as we continue our journey’s through Web 2.0 in the classroom that we would blog about it. Just as if I would blog about my family I could blog about what I have done in my classroom with my students and how things worked.

I encourage you to connect with other teachers outside of your building or even your district. Leave comments on others' blogs, and not just those in the 23 things groups. Read the comments left by others and very often you'll find links to their blogs. Likewise, find out who's saving the same sites on delicious, and you might find a link or an email address so that you can establish a connection with them. You may not find anyone else in your building that's as "gung ho" as you are, but don't let that diminish your enthusiasm. You'll learn from and be encouraged by your PLN, no matter if they're in Michigan or Australia.

I also wanted to say I like your widgets. So cool and easy to do, and even educational!
