I think my students would enjoy listening to podcasts. Having students listen to a book or story could be fun for them. They could use this site that I found in the information that was provided for the course.

This site provides a number of podcast on a variety of topics from National Geographic.

Students would love to create a podcast. I would probably start with Book talks which is a book review made into a podcast. I think it would give them a basic place to start and to have fun and be creative.
I really like this Grammar site it is full of useful podcasts.

Airport has had the homework hotline for a number of years, and when you think about it, a podcast is the same thing... audio of important information. The only disadvantage would be for students who do not have a computer or internet access at home. Most households have a phone or cell phone, but not all have computers.
I agree that podcasting and the homework hotline are very similar. Just another way to get connected with students.
