1. How is a wiki different from a blog?
A blog is used more like a daily diary. A wiki however is something that is created and maintained over time. It isn’t something that you would carry a conversation on but more of something that you could work collaboratively on with others.
2. For what types of assignments or projects would a wiki be more appropriate to use than a blog, or vice versa?
A wiki would be more beneficial if you wanted to write a class paper. You could have one student start a paper and then another student could come along and make corrections or additions to it. This could go on and on until all students have helped create a paper. It could also be used a class website where members of the class could maintain and add important information regarding assignments and useful links.
3. What are some of the problems you can envision when using a wiki with your students? How could you get around these?
Problems that could arise would be students placing inappropriate information on it. This problem could be solved by having students create a contract and sign it along with a parent or guardian about appropriate use of a wiki. In this contract, students would know what is expected of them while in use of the wiki and what the consequences would be if they break these rules.

The other advantage is if students do anything inappropriate, you have a record of their username and the time they did it. You can also easily revert to an earlier version of the wiki page and eliminate the "bad" stuff or lock down the page so that it can't be edited by anyone.
